Greetings dear lemm.ee folks,

I'm not like those other mean Hexbearians. I'm one of the good ones, I promise. I just want choke

I just want you to love me. I'm so sorry for being on Hexbear. Please, please forgive me. I'll do anything. Anything.

Do you want me to stop using emojis? Done. No more PPB? Done. Intense sobbing

I hereby forswear socialism. I'm a liberal now. Do you love me now? Please? Please? Just pick me.

I humbly request that all parties involved in the comments refrain from using slurs or name-calling to reduce the workload on mods and admins.

Edit: @comr@hexbear.net got banned. Eat shit

    As a former lemm.ee user, I don't get it.

After a recent thread dedicated to only shitting on hexbear, with constant hate and misinformation being thrown around, I decided to apply here.

I'm sick of explaining how people can ignore things they don't like on All by simply scrolling by, or blocking communities that routinely infuriate them.

The hate and misinformation is completely exhausting, in the short timespan that lemm.ee has existed, I have lost more faith in humanity in general and internet discourse in particular than in probably all of my previous life. Just reading through the constant garbage in the admin report queue is honestly too much sometimes.

I posted this question in the latest thread on lemm.ee, but I'll repost here as well: if anybody has any ideas on how to improve the situation, specifically in terms of the apparently deep hatred between some users based solely on what home instance they are browsing Lemmy from, then I am really open to all suggestions.

At this point, they're just pushing an agenda. All that "Hexbear operates in bad faith." is projection. If they really don't want to see our posts, they can always just create a lemmy.world or sh.itjust.works account. Our mods and admins are already banning the more rabid haters, so the only reason why some Hexbear hater would be malding about us is if they're purposefully searching for us to mald about, and that's entirely their problem.

I appreciate your efforts. I reported the thread in question when I initially saw it, and I'm glad it was eventually locked.

It's a lose-lose situation. People post threads about hexbear, then hexbear users show up to defend themselves, and then they get attacked for "brigading" or otherwise having a sudden presence in the thread. Rinse and repeat.

For me, the biggest annoyance is the constant "they are right wing trolls!" argument, or saying we don't support GSM/LGBTQ+ here because some users post sarcastic memes about the right. Like holy fuck it boils my blood.

I do want you to know, I didn't leave lemm.ee because of you or how you run the instance. I left because I can't stand the idiotic and mindless parroting of bullshit coming from other users. It's not your fault that a slice of users there are morons, especially with the size of the instance. Keep doing what you're doing and you will eventually find the path forward. Just don't lose sight of your own morality and ideals in the process.

if you're not already doing so, I recommend talking to our mod team because we went through similar crises when the site was younger. I think the realization we all came to eventually was that accounts are cheap - people can always remake them and change their behavior to be less corrosive to the site - so being free with the banhammer is ultimately less of a tax than just letting people stir up drama endlessly.

Yeah. They should honestly just nuke these accounts from orbit every time they start posting the bullshit.

The worst that could happen is that they make another account to post the same garbage again, and the best that could happen would be users not posting bullshit anymore so they don't have to keep making new accounts. Sounds like a win to me

I doubt you'll like the answer, but you should ban those folks. And if people complain about them getting banned, ban them too.

I've come to see that, unlike many liberals, you actually do believe what you say and have an honest commitment to creating an open platform, which is why I say that I don't think you'll like the answer. But it's better in the long term. This site has undergone repeated purges. Quite prominent users, even mods, have been banned. While it's painful, it contributes to making a platform where the users you actually do want come.

Hate clicks and hate traffic have pretty much always been a thing. You can see it pretty much anywhere you go. Silicon Valley platforms deliberately exploited this through algorithms designed to maximize engagement through hate and other negative emotional turmoil. Like a never ending car crash you can't look away from, so people would always be trapped for extended periods of time looking at stuff that made them miserable.

      Very profitable for those platforms.

Another thing is people like to vent and be upset about shit, given their unfulfilling lives. It's just in this case, that energy is being funneled into bad faith engagement and counterproductive practices (misinformation).

I really feel like it's more of a parroting behavior (in this specific case). Repeating things you hear without ever looking into it. Same reason people hate communism, socialists, etc. Propaganda is a fucking demon. And yes, posting about your own misery can be cathartic, so people do it. The problem is that the misery is internal and the projection is misplaced
