      Many of my family and my friends have done social work, it's in turns honorable work to care for others, and a constant struggle against being the person who has to say "I can't help you". I work "nonprofit" healthcare and it's much similar. Drives me to drink at times, but I can go to bed each night knowing I didn't make the world worse and with decent pay.

      in the us, most lower level social work jobs whether govt or NGO, pay is very low. like $18/hr for entry level case workers, last i checked
