Edit: a friend just told me that not only did the guys only uncle not die in iraq, he was also never in the military and the guy entirely made it up just to try and shame me for making fun of veterans

    If he was purely expressing emotional vulnerability about the loss of his uncle in an otherwise nonadversarial conversation, probably.

    If the context included anything about war, politics, military, or even just anything other than his mourning the loss of a family member, heck no.
