I think, if there is any credibility to my own conspiracy theory, it’s that it allows people who unironically have sex-negative perspectives to use it as a mask and face no criticism of it, because anyone who criticizes a dumb meme is just ruining good clean fun (not true but that’s the perspective)

For what it's worth as an ace person I do actually appreciate spaces where it's not low-key horny at all times. I originally felt comfortable in places like /r/cth because I knew if someone made a horny comment it would probably get chased off rather than explode into a thread of dozens of people all making me uncomfortable.

yeah which is another aspect of it which is genuinely good. idk what i would even do because getting rid of the volcel meme would cause more harm than the meme itself

Yeah, I don't know either. I feel bad because I have definitely seen it make some people uncomfortable because of the sex-negative angle, but I'm not convinced it would be helpful to remove it outright either.

maybe we need to genuinely push it farther. start stealing so much dumb stuff that conservatives say as part of their brainworms until anyone who unironically agrees with it is forced to self-crit. but since it would stay around as a meme it would still work to prevent weird discussions
