There's no doubt what he did is shocking and devastating, but perpetuating loaded, stigmatized language in relation to mental illness is part of the equation when it comes to treatment avoidance.
This level of psychosis is so far removed from common onsets of mental illness that it is a diservice to associate this person with mental illness. The rate of people with psychotic episodes is 60x less than the rate of people with depression. Of the psychosis group only a fraction of that group expresses their psychosis through violence. Fuck this guy and the rhetoric surrounding this as a mental health failing. He is a monster and an asshole. Stuff like this being associated with mental health only serves to stoke reinstitutionalization and worsen stigma.
