I have to wonder at this point that there must be something seriously fucky with whatever firms are powering that crap and Adams. When something is broken - just turn it off, fix it, and then make it available again.

These are really quick and cheap to get going, but I wouldn't be shocked if it's a boondoggle.
Oh it's definitely worse.
Someone inhouse could certainly have set up a front end for OpenAI's api for pretty cheap, but my money would be on a private contractor doing the same thing for an obscene amount.
Edit: correction, they're using Microsoft Azure AI, which may use OpenAi's models.
