Two of the organizers behind protests at Columbia University and on other campuses are Jewish Voice for Peace and IfNotNow. Both are supported by the Tides Foundation, which is seeded by Democratic megadonor George Soros as well as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and it in turn supports numerous small nonprofits that work for social change. (Gates did not return a request for comment, and Soros declined to comment.)

JVP has consistently pushed anti-war messaging instead of pro-Palestine messaging. They were some of the earliest to call for a ceasefire - paternalistically, long before this was something any Palestinian org called for. They demand peace, not justice. They aren't even anti-Zionist.

They do have people who are acting in good faith and very committed, engaging in direct action with high chance of arrest. It's just still the liberal idea of action and effectiveness. A lot of their actions are about asking members of Congress to support a ceasefire and that sort of thing.

They're basically exactly what I would suspect a "civil society organization" to be, like the kind Soros loves to fund. Liberal to the core. But still useful in their own way, situationally.
