god i miss the old BBS days.. back when you could actually meet the people you talked to because they were all local.... at least the BBS' i used because I was a kid and my parents would have murdered me if i tried to make a long distance call
as fond of my memories are, there wasn't much you could do beyond visiting the message boards, join the local chat and hope someone was on, or download a file at like 2.5 kb/s

i never experienced BBS but did enjoy usenet but now thinking back it was a bit like reddit only not quite as lame
