    In reality of course they did know people were filming since the Associated Press was allowed into the country by the Chinese government to cover the events. The AP took both videos and photos and wouldn't you know it, the decontextualized still image that implies the man was run over with a tank (since most people never see the video) won a Pulitzer prize for Jeff Widener, the photographer, who was able to leave the country without being searched or having his world famous photograph or his camera or anything else really confiscated by the evil see pee pee.

      I remember reading Wikipedia and he said he hid the film in a box of tea or something because the Chinese were “never gonna allow him to leave with that footage”

        Doesn't make much sense when you realized the associated press also took film reel of the event (this was before digital video was standard) and also left the country with it
