it was, of course, the classic situation:

"All I need is for you to bring your truck! I'll have everything ready when you get here!"

😂 this has never once been true in two decades of helping people move, so when I volunteer to help "just move the mattress and table" I'm ready to pack shit up and clean too

really worried about this friend tbqh, kinda got some hints that there are very serious substance abuse issues happening

idk what to do except just try to be there when he needs us and keep trying to proactively check on him

Last time I helped a friend move he was unconscious on his floor from a seizure, and definitely nothing had been packed lol. I was so unsettled (and made it clear to him he should've informed me about his health issues), and had him chill out while I called more friends and gave them the real lowdown so we could actually band together and help him out.

But yeah, they're never ready lol.

Omg!! Idk what I would have done in that situation, I don't have many mutuals with him anymore, and I was helping him solo because my husband's got a herniated disc. Beg his neighbors for help, I guess.

When you move, or when you end up in the hospital - that's when you find out who your actual friends are, and boy howdy did you come through! Hope your friend treasures you the way he should ❤️
