Game looks cool. Watched a couple of reviews. Now youtube is recommending me rage-baiting gaming weirdos whining about DEI and attacking a reviewer for saying it isn't diverse enough.

And then the developers have this clause reviewers have to agree to get a review copy of the game:

>Do NOT include politics, violence, nudity, feminist propaganda, fetishization and other content that instigates negative discourse

So chuds are championing the game now for being anti-woke?

But not all people had to agree to the clause, just some people? And it's from a marketing partner working with the developer? And the developer may or may not be run by sexist creeps according to internet rumors?

Don't mess with colleagues

In addition to sex partners, we found that many of the previous benefits only looked good. But here, we have more thoughtful services that will make you cry, whether it is meal allowance, car allowance, unlimited taxi reimbursement, or unlimited ZESPRI kiwifruit or KIRKLAND nuts.

Forced self-pleasure

You can easily say "play your own games more" and then turn around to play five-player mid, and you may also make money. But here, we require you to experience the products you develop seriously, and there is no room for compromise.

Fat man die

Reminding employees to pay attention to their health and providing free physical examinations still cannot prevent colleagues from dying from overwork.

But here,

We can go to the gym, run or swim during working hours without anyone's approval, and all expenses are borne by the company.

Must work overtime

We have never concealed the fact that overtime is a cancer in our industry, but here,

  1. We can sleep until we wake up naturally, have lunch and then come to work;

  2. After the project is launched, we will have transparent project profit-sharing bonuses every month.

gamer-gulag gamer-gulag gamer-gulag <-- this but unironically

I know none of this matters, and I spent way more mental energy writing this stupid post than any of this deserves. I was expecting dumb backlash to the game just because it's from China, but this is far stupider than I expected.

Fuck youtube for giving the most awful reactionary gamergate losers a career and promoting them every fucking chance they get. Whenever they attach themselves to a cultural object this bullshit starts popping up like a flea infestation.

Fucking gamers.

investigate just a little bit before getting out your favored whipping dogs, it is not 'weeb', it's chinese. it is a fantasy title based on journey to the west, not a 'historical accuracy!' title.

Again, I know. If this is going to be a hate-fest because that choice of word and nothing else I said, I certainly regret the word choice but I'm not taking back what I said about this game and what I've seen about it so far, or the reactionary side of its fanbase currently cheering on its producers for their response to controversy.

responding to "you misused a word in a way that is lowkey racist" with "I know and did it anyway, but I stand by what I said and you all are revisionist for disagreeing with my takes" is certainly a strat.

              lowkey racist

"Weeb" is about a group of consumers, not any specific ethnic group in that group of consumers. This is a reach, even for you so far.

misuse word in way that creates confusion about what you are saying

Let me restate the first thing I said, in light of your current enraged hyperbole:

I haven't heard of this before and now I never want to hear about it again.

What you're doing right now is definitely adding to my desire not to hear about it again. Seems toxic fandom for it doesn't just come from one direction.

Kingdom come & Mordhau are very different games from this one you just heard about, so your contention that it can be lumped in with them and their toxic fanbases is unsupported. and it just came out, Chuds might drop it in a week or decide to attack it for being Chinese later. it is clearly too early to tell what it's fanbase's character will be

It still seems like you saw your perceived opening when I used "weeb" instead of some unspecified more specific way of summarizing a generalized pool of toxic freeze-gamer that tend to have significant overlap in interest with games that may otherwise play differently, as long as they don't feel too "political" us-foreign-policy to them.

I certainly regret the word choice now but I'm not taking back what I said about this game and what I've seen about it so far, or the reactionary side of its fanbase currently cheering on its producers for their response to controversy.

Chuds might drop it in a week or decide to attack it for being Chinese later

That'd be nice I suppose, but what I'm seeing so far about the specific people making it and how they're responding to controversy doesn't sound great either.

What? I said no such thing.

I already said I regretted using that very broad brush.

Except you here, apparently, and by "discuss" blowing things out of proportion because you found your opening.

sometimes there's cross-genre chud whinging but I think the extra racist flavor of Kingdom Come fan is less likely to appropriate a game not just by a Chinese dev, but completely about China. it seems like a reach!

"weeb" instead of some unspecified more specific way of summarizing a generalized pool of toxic

i think that's a very innovative usecase for weeb, I did not think you were using it to describe gamers specifically, but alluding to the game possessing a japanese setting or character. to me 'weeb' also denotes anime, manga, and the cultural currents and styles related to those.

              it seems like a reach!

It is your right to feel that way.

I do truly regret using the very broad brush of "weeb" which was a word-choice reach, though I will still contend that there's significant visible overlap in the chan-sector /vg/ focused community for "historically accurate" games with swords where it isn't gameplay or even genre that seems to give them common interest as much as aesthetics and omission of undesired aesthetics. us-foreign-policy

but alluding to the game possessing a japanese setting or character

Absolutely not. That wasn't my intention, but the fact it was seen as my perceived intention means I made a great mistake in saying it that way and will refrain from doing so in the future.

I can even see where 'the dark, edgy, retelling' of a classic might appeal to the toxic currents in 'weeb' culture but I haven't seen any sexy fanservice related to it so far so I don't know if it ticks all the boxes. but yeah if we don't clarify that and think terms mean different things it's trouble. the massive artistic influence of japan even means weeb/otaku might have relevance related to things produced in China, so I don't think it's inadmissable, we just gotta be clear obama-sad

I didn't know either way how horny or not horny the game was. I truly am an outsider here and know very little about the game itself except what I already saw in this thread.

Goku wouldn't exist in recognizable form as he is in the Dragon Ball series without the influence of the Wukong character, that's for sure.

EDIT: I want to also say I appreciate that we could come to an understanding here, even if there's a mysterious 3 day old account (as long ago as HexbearGPT's ban) that just showed up here to try to further shit-stir and clearly has a longer deeper hate-on for me than 3 days, that's for sure.
