You guys are not winning, I don't care about you getting 5%, the only thing I care about is utilizing leverage to stop a genocide.
Useless fucks.

Can we just stop bothering with running 3rd party left-wing presidential candidates? Obviously you will never win, but also you won't "build awareness" either. All that Jill Steins years of campaigning have achieved is convincing normies that she's a Russian agent or something.

I don't want to be overly critical of the PSL, but honestly I feel the same way about their presidential campaign. Yes, I'm sure it makes some people feel good when they vote socialist. But where is the actual awareness building? PSL gained a lot of members and attention in my area after the early Palestine protests. They have not gained anything from this presidential campaign that probably takes a bunch of their organizers time.

i've never understood why they bother running for president when they have no presence in state-level politics

I assume it's mostly the power of marketing. PSL has its hand in a lot of activism. They're becoming a name in struggling communities while also showing up on a larger stage.

But I'm not in the PSL, I just do some work with them.

In my state, local municipality councils and BOEs can only have a 2/3rd party majority of a given party. In my town Dems only ever run 6 candidates since there are 9 seats and Dems are the largest voting block. If someone in the PSL ran in my town and got more then 500ish votes (dems get around 1600 to 1900), it would bump off one of the Republicans who always get the gimmy slots.

We really should be looking at the local election laws at that level and fielding candidates in spaces that skew Democrats. We need to look at the laws like the rules of a game and find the patterns and cases that give the left an in road.

I feel like this type of analysis is something a group of Marxists should be able to perform.

That's what I'm saying. It's a bad look that PSL always does the Presidential campaign with no chance of winning but, as far as I know, doesn't already do local campaigns where it could realistically win. They should've been doing this years ago, unless they feel like they couldn't handle the, or don't want to, win. It makes it seem like a pointless organization. Good ML politics, sure, but pointless. If I wanted to stand around at a protest with no direct action I would just hang out with libs.

I say this as a non-PSL member who wants to like the PSL.
