They also don't understand power dynamics and the genuine physical danger that women face. They might think that their disgusting comments are not a big deal because a girl just awkwardly laughs or doesn't make a big deal about it, when in reality the girl is disgusted and horrified but fears the consequences of standing up for herself.

to a certain extent i think this is an understandable consequence of growing up in a society that places no value whatsoever on women, our experiences, or even our opinions. i still feel comfortable branding it a general lack of empathy when there are such a number of dissenting voices that ignoring them almost by necessity constitutes a choice to embrace your position at the top at the cost of everyone else.
