  • getting upset at BG3

My 3rd BG3 playthrough and I once again give up on having Astarion in my party. Fuck this flamboyant piece of shit. Sorry for having empathy for crying children, jesus christ.

Am at the druid grove in act 1 and caught the tiefling child trying to steal from me, she started to cry and an insight check told me the tears are sincere. So I told her "it's fine, don't worry" and of course "Astarion disapproves" popped up.

I was already getting annoyed with how this twat only approves of kicking puppies but this one made me genuinely upset. When he tries to bite me later I might actually just get rid of him for good. If you're bothered by me consoling a crying child, you can actually just fuck right off.

  • It's for the same reason JD Vance promises to his followers that Trump will "stick it to Wall Street". Your average Trump voter isn't a capitalist ideologue. They don't like billionaires, they don't like their bosses, they don't care if CEOs get hunted in the streets. They're pro-capitalist solely because Fox News says it's good, they haven't the slightest clue what it means.

You gotta remember that most people aren't complete freaks and are capable of empathy. There's a very good reason nobody knows what capitalism actually entails and why there's so much anti-communist fearmongering. Because if people actually knew what these words meant, many right-wingers would change their minds.

  • I've been having a good time with Baldur's Gate 3. As someone who's never played D&D, I was very frustrated with the combat system initially and I still don't think it's good, but the rest of the game is just so damn great that it doesn't matter too much.

I finished it on Balanced and am now playing on Tactician, but I don't think I'll finish this run. Playthroughs are really long and it's probably too deterministic and solvable to keep me hooked.

  • My parents were watching the news earlier (German TV news) and they actually did a report about Bedouin villages in Israel that are being razed and the populations forcibly resettled by the Israel government.

Usually German news coverage of Israel is so propagandistic it genuinely messes with my mental health, so it was very nice to see this report that accurately called the Israeli government "ultra right-wing" and the people interviewed were 80% Arab victims, 15% an Israeli human rights activist who said Arabs are treated as 2nd class citizens and only 5% of some IDF talking head.

This was just 1 segment lasting 5 minutes, it doesn't mean anything, they'll have the IDF spokesperson back on tomorrow. It just made me feel a little less insane and helpless.
