Top Justice Department antitrust officials have decided to ask a judge to force Alphabet Inc.’s Google to sell off its Chrome browser in what would be a historic crackdown on one of the world’s biggest tech companies.
I actually looked up an archive link. Trump's first DOJ started this lawsuit, so potentially this could actually happen.
I do think that Google is so uniquely powerful that selling off Chrome to someone else is a net positive. It won't make Google search lose its status as top search engine for a while.
Stripping Chrome for parts would be better, but this is significant.
Trump's DOJ probably reverses this request in 30 seconds. I doubt this happens within two months.
I wonder though. The right wing thinks tech companies "shadowban" them so maybe they let it go through?
