Why did the soviets add an extra S to their name? I don't think Maoist standard English had been invented yet, why didn't they just go with "United States of Russia"?

i mean maybe they speak another language primarily, its spelt "corea" in alot of languages, spanish for example
It used to be spelled with a C in English as well — in fact there's a conspiracy theory that the switch to spelling Korea with a K was Japan's fault, such that Japan would appear before Korea in alphabetic country lists.
