Hmm wonder what a submarine hunting helicopter from Canada was doing there? Suppose they must have lost one of their submarines as surely they wouldn't go to someone else's waters just outside their air-space and try and hunt down, harass, annoy and gather technical data on their submarines. Surely not because that would involve them going across the world to do so in a clear act of aggression.

Surely not because among other things they would be enraged and depict the same activity from China as preparations for an imminent invasion and an unacceptable threat to their security.

“The risk to a helicopter in that instance is the flares moving into the rotor blades or the engines so this was categorized as both unsafe and non-standard, unprofessional…”

omg did anyone else know that if you fire something into a helicopter engine or hit one of its rotor blades off it might fall down?

If you got this narrative going in the press, the next day the news would be reporting the helicopter pilot thought there was an emergency that needed help because it saw a flare.

the canadian navy in the east sea 🇻🇳

if nato-cool governments were clever at all they'd use the vietnamese name for that body of water and try to drive a wedge.

Canada is such a joke. They keep picking fights with countries like China and India when everybody knows they're just a little yapping dog.
