Just use Element! It's open source and E2EE by default.

It's also based on a federated open source protocol called Matrix so you can actually run your own server if you want to. Element is very easy to use and you don't even need a phone number!

      Would you still do so even with the weird stuff with Signal that's been coming up this past week? I think we are on the same page, just ending up in different places at the end of the day 🤷‍♂️

        If you can get them to use Signal instead of Telegram then go for it. Signal is still secure and E2EE at the end of the day. Just don't send Signal any donations and send them Matrix's way instead.
