On this day in 1927, conservative forces led by Chiang Kai-Shek carried out the Shanghai Massacre, attacking and disarming workers' militias by force, resulting in more than 300 people being killed or wounded.

This incident marked the beginning of a campaign of violent suppression of Chinese communists by conservative factions in the Kuomintang, killing 300,000 people over the course of three years.

The Shanghai Massacre began before dawn, when nationalist troops began to attack district offices controlled by the union workers. Under an emergency decree, Chiang then ordered the 26th Army to disarm the workers' militias.

The union workers organized a mass meeting denouncing Chiang Kai-shek the next day, and thousands of workers and students went to the headquarters of the 2nd Division of the 26th Army to protest. Soldiers opened fire, killing 100 and wounding many more.

This incident marked the beginning of a prolonged purge of communists from the Wuhan province, and the ensuing violence killed over 300,000 people in less than three years. Stalin offered his support, sending a telegram to the Chinese communists on June 1st, urging them to organize militarily against the state.

The events of April 1927 prompted the Comintern in Moscow to break ties with the Guomindang. It also triggered in-fighting between communists and left-wing nationalists in Wuhan that contributed to the collapse of Wang Jingwei’s government there.

Thousands of communists were forced underground in the cities or dispersed to rural areas. Some attempted to fight back. In August, rebellious army units led by Zhou Enlai, Zhu De and He Long occupied Nanchang for several days before being driven out by the Guomindang army.

By late summer 1927, right-wing nationalists were ascendant in the Guomindang and Jiang Jieshi had emerged as the dominant republican leader of China.

So gotta go and get ready in a bit to take younger nephew to state tests in his school. He has been in a habit of watching youtube videos on how to cheat which is fine but watching is all he did.

Stuff like writing on shoes or fake water bottles. Like normally I'd be fine with it but I tell him cheating on a test usually requires some level of foresight of what's gonna be on the test but he instead just keeps watching more videos.

He does ask me why he even has these tests and the best explanation I can give him was something to the effect of Bill Gates and other rich people trying to privatize school to make money. Like there might be a better explaination but this only deepens his hate of the rich.

He feels a bit anxious for the future and doesn't know what to do. Since he has trouble with school work he wonders if maybe he can become a dancer. He's been practicing but not super great. I can only help so much since I don't really know how to dance. The best I can do to help is trying to give him a space to dance and directing him to youtube videos. Even if I'm clueless I do my best to encourage him and ease his worries.

Among his other youtube searches he's been watching a lot of Micheal Jackson. He likes his dancing, singing and dress style. He wants to emulate him because he started poor and made it. It probably doesn't hurt that his favorite villain from demon slayer looks like Micheal Jackson.

Anyway gotta go soon, wrote this because I know a lot of y'all are stuck in shitty office jobs and need some slop to entertain y'all. Hope you all have a wonderful day while I'm out.

you sound like a great family member and you really care about this kid. fortunately these state tests don't matter a whole lot, but it might be worth mentioning (if you haven't already, apologies if you have) that state tests are super secretive about what exactly will be on them, so it's not really something you can bring notes for like other tests at school.

Thanks and yeah I think his teachers told him not to worry but I really just think he likes to be sneaky. Still remember how he tries to sneak a soda at night, you hear a small slow hissing sound in the dark coming from the kitchen. We do limit his intake but mostly by giving him a 12 pack and telling him to make it last a few weeks.

I feel that a better answer to a kid asking you "why are there standardized state tests?" is that the state wants to see if schools are teaching you properly. Not "Bill Gates and other rich people are trying to make money". Lying to your nephew to try and make him communist works in the short term, but eventually he'll find out that you mislead him and that might lead him to becoming reactionary.

Not too sure if why these are done. My rational was with the privatization of more schools through charter schools there would be a push to take away more funding from public schools if they don't do well. The Devos family coming to mind at benefiting from this.

I admit I might be wrong and need to look into it more but still remember Bill Gates inserting himself when no one asked and trying to fix education. Pretty sure he 'failed' but the consequences have been with us since.

At minimum will look into this and correct what I said to him if I'm wrong or be more accurate in the future.
