    I've thought a lot about your last point myself. So much of western culture seems designed to squeeze the empathy out of people. I'm not sure if adults can be re-taught basic empathy lessons they should've learned in pre-school.

      I've come to the uncomfortable conclusion that if evil is the absence of empathy like the Nuremburg guy said...then our entire culture is designed to make us evil.

      Generally, if you can learn it after the age of 5 and you don't have a clinical disability nor are on death's door, you can learn it at any other age.
