Today, the German parliament voted on two proposals to replace the decades-old 'transsexual law' which requires intrusive psychological evaluations and thousands of Euros to perform a change of name and gender marker. The Social Democrats voted with the Conservatives and the Fascists against the Greens, the Left and (partly) the Liberals. Someone from the CDU even quoted the British High Court decision on puberty blockers as if that were relevant. Previously, the Conservatives had invited some quack into parliament to talk about how all trans people are fakers anyway.
It's not terribly surprising that the Social Democrats would betray their principles (days after posting a trans flag on Twitter lol), but I still find it disheartening to see this combination of opportunism, old-fashioned transphobia and imported British transphobia. Anyone got some thoughts or questions?
I can't speak German but I'm guessing the comments made on that tweet in the past couple of hours are pretty scathing.
