It's Wednesday again, you know what that means! On this week's episode, we spoke about the 1974 political conspiracy thriller film The Parallax View. The second film in Alan J. Pakula's Political Paranoia Trilogy, The Parallax View follows Joe Frady as he investigates a string of seemingly accidental deaths that has been hitting journalists who had been present at the assassination of RFK stand-in senator Charles Carroll. Frady finally finds the culprit, the cryptic Parallax Corporation, and infiltrates their ranks to learn the truth.

The film is based on a 1970 novel of the same name by Loren Singer. The film departs significantly from the book, where the operations and motives of the Parallax Corporation are made more clear. The production of the film was troubled, as it was being undertaken during the 1973 Writers' Guild of America strike which took its toll on the quality of the film. But in a way, the confused and muddled nature of the film created something that perfectly captured the zeitgeist of the era.

In this episode, aside from the film, we venture into the CIA's experiments in the fields of mind control and hypnosis during this era. What did Sirhan Sirhan, Jack Ruby, and Charles Manson have in common? All of them had been treated by a certain Dr. Jolly West, a major player in the CIA's MKULTRA program. Join us as we dip our toes into the insanity of this era, and rest easy knowing that none of this could ever happen again after the turbulent 1970s 😁.

We are very happy to hear feedback from you, our dear listeners. And if you feel particularly strongly about the show, we ask that you leave us a rating and/or review on Apple Podcasts or other podcasting platforms so that we can get discovered by more listeners. Thank you for listening as always!
