In the year 19 BCE, amidst working on his epic poem Aeneid, Virgil left his home and birthplace of Italy :AyyyyyOC: to visit Greece.

On the way back home he caught fever and died.

If Virgil had never left Italy, the world would be blessed with more great poetry today. Didn't Virgil know the dangers presented by global travel and pandemics? Was his brain too filled with spaghetti?

Why did Virgil leave? Why? I guess we'll never know. :deeper-sadness:

    he finally got rich enough to do the fun victory lap vacation the roman aristocracy was so fond of.

    "hey look its Greece, look where the city we burned down used to be! there's the town my enslaved tutor came from! lets watch spartans pretend to be spartiates for our amusment!"
