I know there are some 🫘 fans here. I’m looking for a good recipe for the classic side-dish style canned baked beans, maybe a little lighter on the sugar. Thanks if you’ve got one!

    A small amount of natural maple syrup, emphasis on small, can replace the sugar addition and imo tastes better. I add some smoky peppers like chipotle and it really pairs well with the maple.

    It’s a pain in the ass if you don’t make it often or in a large batch though because now you have a thing of syrup to find uses for.

    Townsend an 18th century larper makes a solid bean. It's pretty much bean, onion, powdered mustard, and a fuck ton of molasses or honey. If you want lower sugar add less, this kind of recipe doesn't lend well to exact measures. I use great northern beans and add tomato paste, bakes for at least 4 hours. Really hard to over cook. Pork ads flavor but is unnecessary if you want to omit.
