Maybe what I was thinking of is more related to my culture, because come to think of it I don't really know what older people listen to in America. I don't know Tom Petty, I don't know what those country songs about the Iraq war being good are.
I think it’s pretty universal, I’m Mexican American so I do enjoy the boomer music of two countries through my parents. Tom petty is great! especially the album Damn the Torpedos.
But yeah my parents aren’t like patriotic or anything like that so I can’t relate to that stuff either lol.
Would you mind sharing some music from your culture you’re talking about? I’d love to hear it
Mostly MPB, Chico Buarque, Belchior, Zé Ramalho, Djavan, Gonzaguinha, Alceu Valença, Raul Seixas. I was just thinking there's a lot of anti-boomer sentiment in America so maybe there's something I'm missing. I didn't expect a guy to say his dad was mostly into songs about the Iraq war being good.
Thanks so much! I’m into Joao Gilberto, Tim Maia, Os Mutantes, and Caetano Veloso but I haven’t heard any of these names! Gonna check them out now.
EDIT: Raul Seixas is jammin thank you
Yeah the typical boomer mindset is pretty sickly entitled and jingoistic which is what online people are referring to, but if anyone is actually thinking strictly among generational lines ( very spooky, not sure how common that is) they’re gonna miss out on a lot of great stuff.
Man, i need to get more into tejano and norteno music. My coworker joked that i have the same music taste as his mexican mother because he heard some flaco jimenez and los lobos from my radio when he came by.
Maturity is realizing your parents' embarassing boomer music taste is actually good.
My dad only likes extremely racist and/or cloyingly patriotic shit like those country songs about how the Iraq War is a good thing.
My mother is only into 80s glam rock about living in Los Angeles and being high on cocaine.
Tell me again their tastes are good
Maturity is mowing the lawn, cracking open a cold one, and listening to Tom Petty :big-cool:

It makes me so happy when people appreciate things from my country hahaha
Hopefully I can visit Brazil some day, it seems beautiful with a vibrant culture
