You get used to it. When I was a teen and volunteering, I would think my 4 hour shift was long; now days I have worked so many long OT shifts that an 8 hour day goes by at a relatively decent speed. It sucks but not in an explode way, more like a "let the numbness wash over you" way
Highly recommend doc martins, they can be expensive up front, but I’ve put 1000 miles into mine without my feet hurting. Don’t take them hiking and you should be good

Honestly, a chunk of wood could probably provide really good arch support.
