Have you tried any distro running KDE Plasma? I honestly think it's very intuitive and familiar for Windows users and there's a lot of video content out there showcasing how it works and all that... the community is actually gonna be making more content for Steam Deck users

Btw we got a Matrix room where we discuss libre stuff and how we can help chapos switch and all that, we sometimes collaborate on posts too if you're interested.

I get that it's not popular, but I am currently dual booting Windows and Mint, temporarily. I'm a hyper-noob but I need to get some things set up properly in Mint before I can completely erase Windows (i.e. when I'm running Windows it can see USB thumb drives I pop in, but Mint doesn't see them. I can't remove Windows until I get that sorted, for one example).

Dual booting until you figure things out is fine and we encourage those who are worried to do the same

The USB problem might be because you don't mount the drives, this old answer might be helpful. I'd try to provide you with screenshots but I don't use Mint myself

btw we've a Linux Support room on Matrix (discord alternative) here's the room's address if you're interested

Thanks, I'll give that answer a shot. Tbf I've had problems with the USBs pretty since shortly after my buddy built it in 2014. I had someone look at it once and IIRC they said something about how the power supply might not be sufficient to run all the USBs. But honestly Mint has been running super well this time around and once the USB thing is sorted I don't really have much reason to keep windows around.

Glad to hear this is the only problem you've! Do let me know if that answer doesn't help :)

I actually figured out the problem. When I plug a USB storage device in, it shows up in disk utility as unmounted. If I mount it I can then access storage. But if I unplug it then I need to remount it in disk utility again. So I think I just need to apply an automount solution and then I'm golden.
