Back when the story broke I wondered the same, like, how were the students supposed to know that the school is fake

The article says that the students weren't given locations for any of the classes, but the students who noticed that and transferred out still got arrested so...

Oops also forgot to mention, it was a money-making operation for ICE too:

The fake university is believed to have collected millions of dollars from the unsuspecting students. An email from the university's president, named Ali Milani, told students that graduate programs' tuition is $2,500 per quarter and the average cost is $1,000 per month.

"They made a lot of money," Reddy said of the U.S. government.

The local division probably had a deportation quota they didn't have a chance to hit, so they created a situation where they could reach the quota.

IIRC normal cops do the same as a matter of course.

It’s a complicated story. I had to look around a bunch to really understand the student perspective here. It sounds like ICE was doing sketchy ICE shit and preying on vulnerable people who, realistically, should be able to be here anyway. However, it also sounds like some of the people involved knew they were participating in fraudulent activity and still took advantage of others. ICE is shitty for taking advantage of folks and deporting people just trying to live. Those with some knowledge of the system were taking advantage of others to recruit them for financial gain. And everyone else was just trying to live.

That is understandable since the western European diaspora could no longer free ride in the Indigenous population with the residential fake schools from 1850s to 1998 and continued after 1998 in secret. The fake schools that many Aboriginal people were tricked into funding provide free child labor, free human experimentation subjects for health research and chemical weapon testing, free mental institutions for dangerous mentally ill white criminals, and free stuff to European immigrants with stolen inheritance from abducted or murdered children who can't tell their parents that they had never made the request to give free stuff to their slave masters. The western European diaspora need to leach off immigrants of color now that the Indigenous groups had nothing more to steal from.
