Have to buy a laptop soon for school and whatnot and almost bought an HP one before I remembered we're supposed to be boycotting that.

Hell with the school year coming up I would think BDS should be getting the word out more >:( But maybe they are and I just haven't noticed. I'm not online much, this is one of the few websites I peruse. Hi everyone.
But yea I think it might be a good idea to get some hashtags, some memes, etc. going to remind people to buy alternatives. Get to twitter and whatnot. Post on /r/genzedong. Go go go.
Posting from my T430 I got from ebay for $200 :big-cool:
You should just never buy anything HP in general. Even ignoring BDS, they're just a shit company with shit products after getting gutted by slash-and-burn investors.
This! Bought an HP printer (inkjet), supposed to be their high end one. Output was great but its DRM software wouldn't let me print with 3rd party cartridges, and it gave all kinds of errors. It wouldn't even use up the entire cartridge before complaining it was out of ink. Finally, it just froze.
Yes. I had an HP laptop that, once it quit, found out it had a defective motherboard that was recalled. Since I had disassembled it, they did nothing for me. $700 laptop.
If you can afford one, the Framework laptop looks sick.
...it looks exactly like a Macbook. I don't know how they get away with it.
Shit, every laptop just looks like a Macbook, Surface Pro, or an HP Spectre now. Framework at least differentiates itself by being modular with all-replaceable and upgradeable components.

Yeah, that's just sick. And it's not expensive either. Thanks for the rec. I've also been looking into purism so that's another good option for folks .
I think Purism kinda overhypes their security. Like, it's really just a totally free linux distro that doesn't have any proprietary blobs, it's not like it's truly magic and hacker-proof and private or whatever. Having said that, there is some utility to being able to disable IME and having hardware kill switches, for the paranoid.
It looks like a great option for a linux laptop, and probably even better than the System76 laptops in terms of long term usability.
Jealous. My broke ass is stuck with just a desktop from 2014.
in the 1990s HP became notorious for loading tons of bloatware on new machines
Dells suck too. Idk if the company has bad practices or not, but they still don't have usb-c charging on most of their laptops.
Second-hand ThinkPad gang, Lenovo or bust
https://retrofreedom.com/ this one comes with a free software BIOS.
