      I think she figures that Israeli people, being normal and good people without hate in their hearts, will eventually put enough pressure on their own government, whether by vote or by protest, to end apartheid. She is also full of despair, because that seems highly unlikely. We have had many discussions

          Honestly hadn’t really thought about this effect, but I’d heard about the brain drain. Loads of people doing exactly* what they ought and deciding to not be settlers leaves an only those who have decided to be settlers.

          *ok, not exactly what they ought; they ought to take up arms and form a fifth column, but we can’t all be John Brown.
