    No, but they had an allied government in Kabul, and they couldn't just let it fall. The USSR really, really didn't want to go into Afghanistan, but the Soviet leadership didn't think they had a choice, and they might have been right. It's hard to see what else they could have done.

      my opinion is that sadly a lot of societies werent ready for socialism, mostly in regards to whether they could fight off the capitalists. maybe the USSR should have been more out for themselves after WW2 and followed a china-esque model. idk. im just sad at what the post soviet states have become. and the fact that i can understand russian and stuff and boy would it be sweet if the soviet union still existed, i'd move there :\

      or just czechoslovakia existing. i'd settle for that. like im a citizen of czechia and all but things are bleak there :(
