As I read the headline at first I thought this was just a bad design issue, then the prison euphemism popped up.

I had to read the comments to realize it was a prison. Then again english is my second language.

English is my first language and I just glossed over the term "correctional institution" because that just didn't even make sense. Nobody heals at a fucking prison. I assumed it was some kind of stupid shaped community center or something.

It's easy to just be derisive about this, but indigenous focused reforms to the correctional system are a pretty big topic in Canadian indigenous politics. It would be better if the whole system was revolutionized for everyone, but making changes to one location that incorporates more community oriented approaches is still positive.

By all means Canada delenda est, but I think better rationale for that is literally any other aspect of the Canadian carceral system rather than choosing the one structure run by CSC that was developed with some kind of indigenous perspective in mind.

I pretty much agree with everything you pointed out, but it is hilarious how no one thought this would be a bad idea to do such a design AND post it on social media like that. Especially after the whole nazi cheers situation

If this appeared in a work of satire, I'd call it too on-the-nose

"Seeing as we disproportionately incarcerate indigenous peoples, we thought we should do something aesthetic that gives some recognition to them!"
