      And xenophobia. If a new outbreak happens, they know just who to blame. Not the MPs who were out spitting in each others' mouths.

        That's actually why we have the variant names like Delta, beta, etc. Instead of listing the variants by country of origin. It's an attempt by the WHO to try reduce xenophobia and stigma around reporting variants. Still doesn't stop racist media outlets from doing so unfortunately

          It's like they're playing hot potato with the variants until they can safely and definitively lay blame on a country they don't like.

            Yeah there was some movement to label the Delta variant the Indian variant but it didn't catch on. But look at all the stuff around China at the beginning of the pandemic for a clear example of this behaviour

      The official justification is that they don't trust these countries governments to verify vaccine status and vaccine cards/passes. So they'll definitely apply the same rules to antivaxx hotspots in the west, right?
