Along with one or two of the lib Supreme Court justices dying and getting replaced with Christian fascist.

      Arguing is fun!

Fr fr tho, Leftists need to stop talking about "material conditions" as if they have any relevance to American politics because the fact is none of us understand anything about real material conditions.

they got a point, american politics is about culture and scoring points. No one in this country even really connects politics to material conditions because its neolib hell.

Culture wars are downstream of material conditions though. What specific type of dumb bullshit that appeals to chuds and libs does not appear out of thin air. It's a result of material conditions

Clinton lost because of the Rust Belt, because of NAFTA. Trump lost because of covid. Material conditions absolutely have an effect.

This is some culture war brainworms, comrade. The power structures in the United States are absolutely determined by the owning class. Just because the superstructure is convoluted doesn’t mean the base doesn’t exist. And if wha you’re saying amounts to “the superstructure is a lot more complicated than Marx made it out to be”, then you’re about 100 years late to the party on that

Correct, but "politics" in the United States are pure superstructure. The base exists, but it's irrelevant to the "political" discussion because any political entity with any sort of real power is in complete agreement on how the base operates (more money for us, fuck you).

literally by definition "material conditions" IS what exists, including both the base and superstructure. The internet is material, including cults on it, despite how disconnected from reality they might be. "Material" doesn't just mean something that is physical.

I see what you mean though, that liberal politics is delusional and leftists shouldnt try to engage in it. However, we definitely should never stop trying to make sense of and analyze material conditions, it is impossible as well.
