I live near a high school and I guess the students eat these and don't die. Can anyone tell me what they are?

They're sweet and soft like peach texture on the inside.
Absurd that this thing is called the Strawberry Tree because euros thought it looked like a strawberry. I guess it's red, but like that's about it. Real medieval animal art moment.
Also absurd that it's called the Irish Strawberry Tree despite there being only two tiny isolated populations of it in Ireland
They look almost exactly like wild forest strawberries, I thought that those were strawberries on first glance. I would also call it a strawberry tree to be honest. Or just use the local name.
Whoa, it kinda does! I thought it was just old timey people not knowing what things look like and describing them in terms of other things with which they aren't familiar. They're just little spikey gremlins, huh.
I don't think so. The inside texture smells and looks like peach. It's really soft with tiny seeds
That looks really close but they grow on trees around here. Though with the replies I was able to find it via image search.
Arbutus unedo also known as the Strawberry Tree

They're pretty good, kinda like peach in flavor, but a lot softer. From what I gather, they bruise pretty easily. You can eat them skin and all.
