Like this morning when I jumped in my car and the radio happens to actually be in FM mode and I hear the local classic rock station's morning show. And they're just now spending five minutes on University of Austin. And the main show guy says this beautiful line:

"Should I feel dumb for not knowing what a Substack is?"

No, Dale. You are blessed.

Should I know what a substack is? Looks like some sort of blogging website? I googled it and skimmed headlines that say its gonna revolutionize newsletters but I haven't subscribed to a newsletter on purpose my entire life

It's patreon for journalists. You fund their investigations, they give you the newsfeed without the editorial control of a newspaper.

If anything it's the better model to replace many of the things that make journalism such a farce. Turning it into podcasting means socialist journalists can eat while covering things like protests/wars/anti-thingism. As it stands you become a PMC by fitting into the existing machinery of the PMC and having your work checked by their standards. The most radical writer is tied to Willy Wonka at Current Affairs or the spooks at Bellingcat for a reliable income and that's a set of recuperative deals with the devil.
