I work for a company that is essentially tasked with undermining and privatizing public healthcare.
My job is to actively undermine public healthcare for a shiny $22 CAD an hour. I need to get the fuck out of this thing, it is making me want to kill myself. How do I best get the fuck out? And then once I do get out, what do I do from there.
Step 1: sabotage your own work. Take everything real slow, cut your pace into quarters if you can. Cut every corner you can, skimp as many details as you can get away with, just generally do a bad job.
Also, any inconveniencing of others you can do should be done, leave things out, jam the water cooler and the printers, drop the coffee pot, put a whole sandwich in the dishwasher, if the circuit breaker is unprotected reset it on a random basis. Continue this behaviour until you've been hired elsewhere. Speaking of:
Step 2: Look around for what is hiring.
I hate linked-in, I haven't had to look for a job in a while but Indeed is pretty good. Always check your places on Glassdoor too, especially before they remove all the negative posts. Most public sector work in Canada is pretty okay (except for cops, obviously) so maybe try looking at some of their career options. I know the Parks Service is hiring if you're willing.
If you are doing step 1 right you now have lots of time on the job to do this.
Step 3: Interviewing process Start applying for places that you think you won't hate, if you need tips for writing a resume some petty Bourgeois fuck will like that is probably a different post, but if the "Labour shortage" is as bad as people say then it probably won't matter. When you interview always make sure to leverage the fact you already have a job, do not mention that you hate it to your interviewer before they hire you.
This is also the step where you leverage your skills and experiences. If you've been in your current job for a while (or at least for the pandemic) make sure that is known to your interviewer.
This step ends when you get hired somewhere else, if you're lucky it will be maybe a couple weeks but it might be a month or two.
Step 4: Quit your old job suddenly and without warning.
Title. The less notice you give them the worse they scramble. If you just never show up and ghost them they will scramble a lot but probably still call you from time to time which is annoying.
I'm sorry that you are in this situation. If I were you, my first priority would be trying to find a new job. What is the job market like for you?
If the job market for you is not great, are you able to relocate to a better market? I know that this is easier said than done between family/friends and the cost of relocating.
I get paid 17 USD to help build shitty subburbs. I just go home and lay in bed and wait to die and people get mad at me when I'm too depressed to hide it.
I'll give you the lib boring version: First thing is establishing what you have, in this case ask what marketable skills do you have that you can use to acquire another job. Then start applying a bunch but keep your current job if you can handle it, the money makes the transition a lot easier. Don't job search on a company computer. Make sure you have some extra money saved up, if you can, while switching as all sorts of things can go wrong and it's really important to have that safety net. Try to ensure that you have friends or family that can help support you during the transition and can alleviate some of the stress.
Alternatively just stop working and become a roamer that preaches communism.
