    Aren't diamonds not that rare anyway? Doesn't De Beers specifically just have a near monopoly on them so they drive up the price? I feel like this was inevitable.

      They used to be very rare before the 19th century but then a gigantic source was found in South Africa.

      You can easily produce diamonds in the lab as well and there's zero difference between them and "natural" diamonds because they're just fancy rocks.
