    It's crazy that from what we know now, Soviet military analysis of a war against the US was purely defensive, there was never an intent to destroy the US directly or send the Red Army into western Europe.

    Despite that the United States propagandized people into believing that war was on the doorstep and the Reds could strike at any time. Despite it being much more likely that the US would strike first.
