Long story short I’m finally getting one and I know a bunch sell your data. So which is the actually best safe one

    None of them are truly trustworthy, however I really like Mullvad because most of the software they develop is open source. They so far have a good track record when it comes to privacy, and their software is pretty decent (imo).

    If you want privacy while browsing the internet your best (but still not perfect ) shot will be through tor (although some argue that the best way is to not use anything and simply "blend into the crowd").

    Mullvad or IVPN. You can send cash to either in an envelope with your account ID on a piece of paper inside to an address they specify and they'll keep your account alive - useful if you don't want it traced to a bank account. The account terminates some time after you stop paying into it. They both offer multihop, port forwarding, and Wireguard connections so you don't have to deal with the mess that is OpenVPN.

    You might have to switch the VPN off or change the server you connect to for a few sites, as the nature of sharing an egress IP with people who don't want to be found means you'll already be flagged when visiting certain sites.     You all pretty much know this but it bears repeating: if you heard about it from a youtube sponsorship, it's not a good VPN.

    I used to hear private internet access get recommended a lot, but they got bought by an Israeli company a little while ago and have no clue how it has impacted the product or storage of/willingness to share logs

    Be sure you google how often your country (or region) has two problems with the VPN in question...

    1. "Access denied" problems

    2. Captcha annoyances

    3. Also if you torrent - be sure you get port forwarding. NordVPN doesn't have that and they were deceptive and I thought that they did. Reddit has a torrent vpn sub but I forget the exact name.

    No VPN is perfect but it's good to get a reality check before you buy your VPN. I use NordVPN and I'm pretty happy with it. I'm in the US. They improved my google experience and if there's a captcha - I only very rarely have to solve a puzzle. Usually I only have to click "Are you human?" Access denied errors are a real pain. Usually they are rare for me but the last few days I've gotten about three of them. I hope it's not a trend...

    The only way to use the site is to turn off my VPN.

    At Nike.com - something very weird happened. I was able to use the site at first. I was messing around with a "Design your own shoe" page and I was having a great time. But after I clicked something my shoe disappeared and I got the damn access denied error. It was like getting slapped in the face and having my toy taken away.

            In order to seed/share files on bittorrent, other users need to be able to connect to you. Port forwarding allows your computer to receive incoming connections through a router/VPN (since your IP isn't publicly known or reachable). Some VPNs don't do this and it means at best you'll only be able to download. I don't recall spending extra or enabling anything extra with Nord though. Maybe their policy or pricing has changed though.

        Torrent works and I can max out my speed (before Comcast throttles me at ~3.5MB/s). But port forwarding is a great thing to have for torrents. That's all I know. I've googled port forwarding before but the answers gave me a big migraine.
