The point was to stop the hospitals from being overloaded before the vaccine rollout, which idk how well that worked because there isn't really any good old or current statistics on that because of the privatization of hospitals in this country. Fortunately I live in a county with an absolute shitload of hospital beds per capita, but I've heard of beds being completely full in larger cities and in smaller counties. I've definitely heard we have been taking slack off of other counties.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, we are riding off of the accumulated wealth of our forebears on this one, any success in response is due to that stockpiling, not because of any particular policy.
As bad as it is from a healthcare standpoint, ultimately what it is is a sign of total breakdown in trust of the government, which for us communists, is sorta a good thing. The key in this country is to turn that distrust into positive worker action and anti-imperial ideology. It's a tough contradiction to suck on, but I really hope there is a way forward here that isn't just reactionary.
I don't disagree with this analysis, but that being said, little pushes can be made among friends and family if you present right. Maybe not conversion, but I think you do the best for your circumstances. It's why you have to look at AES to see actual activism, socialism and governance. We can play at it here in the West, but unless there are some radical and catastrophic changes here, we are stuck as spectators.
Weren't they already?
To second this, there has never been a point when makes mandates were actually enforced in my area.
A bunch of our county officials just made a statement saying that would not enforce any mask mandates
