Desmond Tutu, who sadly died recently, was a South African bishop, theologian, and human rights activist, especially against apartheid, and was also a supporter of queer rights.

He was born to a lower-class family in Klerksdorp, South Africa. He initially studied to become a teacher, but was ordained as a priest in 1960, and moved to Britain (:ukkk:) He returned to South Africa and taught at the Federal Theological Seminary, and then taught theology at the University of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland. In 1972 he became the general director of the Theological Education Fund, which gave him authority all over Africa. He then became general secretary of the South African Council of Churches.

From this position, he became a prominent advocate against South Africa's apartheid government. In 1985, Tutu became Bishop of Johannesburg and in 1986 the Archbishop of Cape Town, the most senior position in southern Africa's Anglican hierarchy. He emphasized cooperation and oversaw the introduction of women into the ranks of the clergy.

After the end of apartheid, he was selected to chair the Truth and Reconciliation Commission to investigate the former government. Following the end of the apartheid regime, Tutu campaigned for queer rights and had a wide range of opinions, among them his support of Palestinians in the Israeli–Palestinian conflict (alongside his simultaneous belief in Israel's right to exist), his opposition to the Iraq War, and his criticism of South African presidents Thabo Mbeki and Jacob Zuma. In 2010, he retired from public life, and he died on December 26, 2021.

Was worried my wife was exposed to covid but then her boss said it's not an exposure if you're wearing a mask and natural immunity is better than a vaccine. Real load off my mind. This is the type of leadership you want when your clients are elderly and disabled
