    I always find it odd how much private wealth is generated through public funded sports. The big three of college sports (football, baseball, basketball) generates all this money that leaves the treasuries of public institutions. I would love to see students-athletes unionize, and I'd love to see more of the coin that they create go back into the public pockets.

    I always hear about the wealth generated by a university's sports program, and in the same sentence I hear another department being folded into another or shut down all together. I'd love know that this money is helping maintain the school rather than just going to hands of a few. It may not be ideal but I'd like know the Football's program wealth generated helps keep open the Earth science college for example, rather than going to some broadcast corporation or a pension fund.
