I fell into an internet rabbit hole after checking out a post yesterday that covered how The Web Is Fucked. As much as I hate what corporations are turning the web into, I really doubt stitching together cool niche personal sites is going to save the internet. The best thing that might happen is ADHD-friendly php forums that don't give ridiculous platforming to the oldest quick and vapid replies.
i am feeling so attacked right now
right?
The way forward for saving the web is to build alternatives. The Web Is Fucked, and there's nothing we can do but burn it down and start again. I recommend checking out Gemini space for a new internet protocol that attempts to recreate the early web without allowing things like tracking and JS bloat! There are already personal websites galore (check out gemini://warmedal.se/~antenna/), social networks (gemini://station.martinrue.com/ and gemini://midnight.pub) and even an anonymous image board (gemini://IIch.space/).
wow neat, thank you!
