I looked up images on findagrave, and the son's gravestone is inscribed with the words "Inventor of pen-dynamic extraction for the production of cost-free electricity"
Why haven't I heard about this and what does that even mean?

Generally speaking, "cost-free electricity" means someone is either a scam artist or just plain wrong. They were either a quack or a kook, basically.
