Trigger warning for the link: discussion of self harm, sexual abuse
I don't know about you, but I found A Little Life to be the most self-graitified, coddling, sulky, and unrelentingly cruel story to toe the line between lifestyle and torture porn I've ever read, and everything I've seen about the Hanya Yanigahara as a person - writing a story centered on mental illness as ecstatic tragedy without ever once consulting a survivor, the constant centering of her point of view, being a fucking Condé Nast jet setter - flies in the face of her weird position as arch woke-liberal or the prodigal voice of gay lit. Just baffling that this kind of out of touch schlock gets published, let alone celebrated.
