True, but monocles also remind people of steampunk. And since Marx and Engels were steampunk socialists, you could argue monocles are simultaneously bourgeois and proletarian.
A very fair point to raise! In the case of steampunk energy, I feel like there needs to be a reminiscence of cogs and brass here.
