Your sober friend(s) drive you there at 1am to get some food because you've been drinking/smoking/etc. It's just a cheap (or was) place to get a variety of fried/grilled food. They differ from McDonalds or other places because they grilled their burgers and they were thicker patties. It's very popular among college students.
