In Dark Souls 3, Gwyndolin seems to have abandoned said ring, because you find it in the location of Gwyndolin's Dark Souls 1 bossroom a significant distance away from where Aldrich devoured him. So it seems he does at least tries to present more masculine after Gwynn is no longer around.

Honestly not sure. IIRC they were raised "as a daughter" due to their association with moon magic, but you might be right.
