Reddit Atheism+™ shit. It's not that farfetched. Give them the benefit of the doubt
why? if thats the case they are saying all atheist are reactionaries otherwise they would have specified, or better wouldn't have said atheist at all. also im not inclined to give anyone who upholds reactionary ideologies the benefit of the doubt and no one but a theist would have made this.
There is concentrated effort in the lefty reddit which spills over sometimes to paint all atheists as reactionaries. I encounter it all the time now, proreligious posts are everywhere and are upvoted heavily, and the idealism levels are completely off the chart. What's worse, there's a lot of posts actively attacking materialism as base of marxism and trying to change the definition of it.
I've encountered some Italian teen "marxists" trying to paint Jesus as this great socialist figure, even saying that they're "Jesusist" and that being against Christianity is reactionary.
Weirdest one for me was one dude saying you can't be marxist without being religious and other one saying that religion is materialist.
So standard religious pretzling. Sad to see.
I wouldnt write off that idea as being a 'teen' idea, its a common thread in Italian communism, and liberation theology/communist christianty that Jesus was a revolutionary figure.

Those particular people were teens, though it's nice to know where they might be getting it from
